Client Background

Our client, a prominent member of the “Big 4” accounting and consulting firms, handles a vast volume of critical documents daily. Managing these documents efficiently, ensuring their security, and Tracking their Real-Time Location are essential for streamlined operations and compliance.

The Challenge

Document Tracking:
The client needed a robust solution to track documents across their offices, meeting rooms, and storage areas. Traditional manual methods were time-consuming and prone to errors.

Real-Time Location:
Locating specific documents quickly was challenging, especially during audits, client meetings, or urgent requests.

Record Keeping:
Maintaining an accurate record of document movements, access history, and usage was crucial for compliance and accountability.

Lansitec B-Mobile® Solution

The Lansitec B-Mobile Solution provided an innovative approach to address these challenges:

1. Bluetooth Beacons (Labels):
Attachment: Bluetooth labels (beacons) were attached to each document. These small, battery-powered devices emitted Bluetooth signals.
Real-Time Tracking: The beacons continuously transmitted their unique identifiers (IDs) and signal strength (RSSI).
Spatial Region Estimation: By deploying multiple Bluetooth gateways, the system estimated the number of assets (documents) within defined spatial regions (rooms, floors, etc.).

2. Bluetooth Gateways:
Deployment: Fixed Bluetooth gateways were strategically deployed throughout the client’s premises. These gateways collected beacon messages from nearby devices.
Data Processing: The gateways processed the beacon data, including IDs and RSSI.
LoRaWAN Integration: The Bluetooth gateways combined Bluetooth 5.0 (BLE mode) with LoRaWAN technology.
LoRaWAN Gateway: The processed data was sent to a LoRaWAN gateway, which then transmitted it to a LoRaWAN network server (NS).

3. Use Cases and Benefits:
Document Tracking: The system allowed real-time tracking of document movement. Employees could locate specific documents swiftly, enhancing efficiency.
Asset Management: The solution extended beyond documents. It could track other assets, such as equipment or inventory.
Data Transfer for Monitoring: Bluetooth sensors (e.g., temperature sensors) could transmit data via LoRaWAN, especially in outdoor or large indoor environments.

4. Gateway Variants:
Indoor Bluetooth Gateway: Deployed indoors on ceilings or walls. It featured a built-in rechargeable battery and operated during power outages.
Compact Bluetooth Gateway: Portable and versatile, it could be placed anywhere. Ideal for monitoring Bluetooth equipment.
Solar Bluetooth Gateway: Designed for outdoor environments without power connections. It operated continuously using solar energy.
